Coding with Dash Robots!

Today our 4th graders began a series of activities in the STEAM Lab to compliment the book they are reading: THE WILD ROBOT. Students will learn how to code their "Dash Robot" using Blockly. This is a color-coded easy-to-learn programming tool similar to programs "Scratch" and "Tinker." Stay tuned for updates on these projects soon!

Engineering in our Community

In the STEAM Lab this week, our 1st grade engineers have begun a multi-week project to recreate a building similar to one here in our community of Livermore. They are learning about building foundations and other structural concepts. Students are using only their hands and some materials from our Makerspace Cart, no tools will be used.  During the coming weeks, as they continue to build, students will determine what changes and modifications will be necessary to their original plans.

After weekly design time within the STEAM Lab, students were ready for take off! Students were encouraged to improve their score after each launch. Our three Rocket Games events included testing our rockets for; height, distance, and accuracy.

All 2nd and 3rd grade students are able to bring home their rocket design kits home at the end of the week to share.

Exploring Science with Digital Microscopes

Our 4th and 5th graders are the first to explore nature under the microscope . . . with our new digital microscopes.

Each student (1) Connects a digital microscope to their Chromebook (2) Takes a digital photograph of the specimen (3) Imports that photo into their Google Slides presentation (4) Writes sentences about what they observe!
